Changeover today at Quinto Bookshop

It’s changeover this week at Quinto Bookshop … our basement re-opens today Tuesday 1st June at 2pm after a complete re-stock. There’s a good mix of subjects this month, with literature and travel looking especially interesting. We have more antiquarian and older books available this month than we did in May, so the basement promises a potentially rewarding rummage for collectors.  (Our favourite title so far… a history of pins and pincushions.)

The queue starts at two, so pop in and be first to have a hunt for bargains.

Changeover tomorrow

It’s that time of the month again … Quinto Bookshop’s basement will re-open tomorrow Tuesday 1st June at 2pm after our latest re-stock. Lots of nice looking literature and travel coming out of the boxes so far, so it should be a good one.

Modern art collection – last chance to view

This month at Quinto Bookshop we have a huge selection of contemporary art books on sale, purchased from the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. There’s a wide range of pamphlets and catalogues for many modern artists, plus books on subjects such as American and oriental art.

This collection is only in the shop for another week before our next complete stock change, so if modern art is your thing, pop in soon for a chance to have a look.

Our basement will close for re-stocking on the afternoon of Saturday 29th May, and re-open with all new acquisitions at 2pm on Tuesday 1st June.

The Art of the Matter

Our next changeover, the complete re-stocking of the Quinto Bookshop basement, will take place next weekend. The basement will close on the afternoon of Saturday 1st May and re-open with completely new stock at 2pm on Tuesday 4th May.

May will be a good month for art-lovers at Quinto – we will have a major collection of books, pamphlets and catalogues relating to contemporary art, acquired from the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. The collection covers a wide range of modern artists, some names well known and some more unusual. These items will be on sale from Tueday 4th May, and are very competitively priced.

A Bridge Book Too Far?

We’ve had a new delivery of books in this week with some interesting specialities – a small collection of books on bridge (the game, not the river-crossing type) with tantalising mentions of such mysteries a the Forcing Two, the Barton One Club and the Losing Trick Count. There’s also a good selection of recent history titles and a sizable pile of second hand music scores, plus a range of other subjects.

Art enthusiasts may wish to make a note that our next complete stock changeover in May should be a good one – we will have a large collection of books, pamphlets and catalogues on contemporary art from the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. This collection will be on sale from Tuesday 4th March at 2pm.

The all-new Quinto Bookshop opens

Quinto Bookshop is now in full-swing at its new premises at 72 Charing Cross Road, which opened on 23rd March. With two floors of second hand, antiquarian, rare and collectible books, the new shop is more spacious, brighter and bursting with bargains and unusual finds.

We were sad to leave our old home at 48a Charing Cross Road, which was a bookshop for over 100 years, and where Quinto were in business for over quarter of a century, but we’re delighted to be able to help continue Charing Cross Road’s unique bookselling tradition further up the street at number 72. We’ll be continuing our monthly stock changeover, the complete restocking of the basement – the next changeover date is Tuesday May 4th.

The Story of the Move
Our new shop at 72 Charing Cross Road was transformed from empty shell to cosy bookshop in under two weeks. Carpenters Dave and James Link worked like Trojans to fit floor-to-ceiling shelving throughout the shop, while staff painted walls and moved furniture.

Clearing out of number 48a after a hundred years of uninterrupted occupancy was no small feat, and involved uncovering some layers of history in the form of hidden fireplaces and cupboards as the shelves were taken out. One cupboard was found to contain piles of maths textbooks from the early 1900s, possibly stowed there by a member of staff at Joseph’s, the first bookshop shop on the street in 1906.

The grand opening of the new shop attracted quite a crowd of customers keen to check out the premises and the new stock. (And possibly the free fizz.) The first sale was celebrated with a handshake.

So Quinto and Francis Edwards Bookshops are now open for business as usual at 72 Charing Cross Road, Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm and Sundays 12pm to 8pm. Come and have a look round!
